What to Do Next
Parents, you are the experts when it comes to your child. You know your child best and will frequently be the first to be concerned. Trust your instincts and if you have concerns with consistent behavior that your child is, or is not, demonstrating, please discuss it with a healthcare professional.
The lists below contain age appropriate behaviors that are healthy signs of sensory integration in children. When reviewing the lists, keep in mind that they are organized by functional areas and not by importance. Make sure to check behaviors as your child grows, learns, and becomes able to consistently demonstrate them.
The next step is to find a clinic and schedule an evaluation with a pediatric therapist. Pathways is available at 1-800-955-CHILD to help recommend a therapist near you. If your child is under 3 years of age, you may want to consider contacting your state’s early intervention system for an evaluation.
