For Parents - Tummy Time

Tummy Time

The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends:
• Placing babies on their backs to sleep
• Tummies to play as part of a daily routine.

Increased Tummy Time is significant for:
• Meeting key motor milestones; rolling over, supported sitting, sitting alone, crawling, and pulling to stand
• Development of fine and gross motor skills, improved neck and head control, stronger back and shoulder muscles.

Pathways Medical Round Table developed a set of guidelines for Tummy Time
that outlines when to start and how much is needed.
