When should Baby start solid foods?
It depends on when Baby is ready, but the American Academy of Pediatrics recommends start solids around 6 months. Here are some signs that Baby is ready for solid foods:
Able to hold their head up when sitting
Shows interest in what others are eating
Opens mouth when food approaches
Able to move food from a spoon or fork into throat
There’s no one right way to start solids—it’s all about what works best for your family. Some parents begin with iron-fortified cereals or smooth purees, while others explore baby-led weaning. No matter how you choose to start, be sure to talk with your child’s healthcare provider and always offer safe, age-appropriate foods to help prevent choking.
