How can I encourage sensory development?
You can encourage sensory development in infants by exposing them to new sights, sounds, textures, and tastes, and doing activities that help with balance, body awareness, and the internal sense. Here are examples of sensory activities that engage each of Baby’s senses:
Sight: Play with mirrors and toys with lots of colors
Hearing: Talk and sing to Baby
Smell: Let Baby smell the foods you cook
Taste: When Baby has started solids, have them try variety of fruits and veggies
Touch: Give Baby toys with different textures
Vestibular: Rock and swing Baby gently
Proprioception: Massage Baby with a wet washcloth during bath time
Interoception: Follow a routine , which helps Baby recognize their body’s cues for hunger, sleep, etc.
