Is Baby Ready to Try Finger Feeding?

Baby’s diet is expanding as they try more solids! By 9 months, they’ll start trying to finger feed themselves, and also stay full longer between feedings. These 6-9 month feeding milestones are important signs that Baby is growing typically and gaining the skills they'll need for future development.
Tracking these milestones helps you support healthy feeding development and notice if Baby needs a little extra help.
Baby should meet these feeding milestones by 9 months:
✅ Able to eat soft finger/table foods, e.g. yogurt, bananas, ground beef
✅ Explores food and attempts to finger feed self
✅ Stays full longer after eating
✅ Eats between 750-900 calories per day, including 24 oz. of breast milk/formula
