Tummy Time by Age | What to Look for at 6 Months

By 6 months, Baby is becoming more mobile! They will use Tummy Time to play, pivot, roll, and reach as they explore their surroundings. Baby may be a Tummy Time pro by now, but it’s still important to continue doing it!
Use the skills below to check in on Baby’s progress during Tummy Time. Aim to do Tummy Time when Baby is happy and alert, and avoid doing it right after feeding.
Tummy Time Skills at 6 Months:
• Starts to prefer being on their stomach. Being on their tummy allows them to play, move, and explore more easily.
• Pushes up on straight arms
• Reaches and grabs toys of different sizes
• Able to pivot in a circle on stomach
• Rolls from back to tummy and tummy to back
• Self-directs Tummy Time
Tip for Tummy Time at 6 Months:
Pretend Baby is on an elevator for a fun way to mix up Tummy Time! While lying on your back, hold Baby with steady hands and slowly push them up and down in the air. Beware of baby drool!
